What is “The Professionals”
The Professionals is a professional DJ, MC and Entertainment service in the Okanagan, based in Kelowna, BC. We are owned and operated by Phil Leger (DJ Funkiphil). We specialize in providing exceptional, customized music and dance experiences with old-fashioned, professionalism and one-of-a-kind service.
How long has “The Professionals” been in business.
Phil Leger bought The Professionals in 1998 and has been providing DJ services and Event planning ever since.
What types of events do you DJ?
DJ Funkiphil specializes in weddings, corporate events, fundraisers, private parties, school dances, and more. If there’s a celebration, he’ll bring the music and energy to match. From an intimate family affair to a roaring corporate party and anything in between. He prides himself on being able to customize his services to meet the needs of each unique group and atmosphere.
How far in advance should I book?
Secure DJ Funkiphil for your event by booking as early as possible! Popular dates, especially during wedding season, fill up fast. We recommend booking 10-18 months in advance for high-demand dates. Last-minute? No problem! If we’re available, you can book right up until the day before your event.
What areas do you serve?
The Professionals provide services throughout the BC Interior and beyond. Contact us for details if your event is outside the area – we LOVE to travel!
What is the planning process?
The process starts with an inquiry from you, via phone, text, or email. Phil will always follow up with a phone call to clarify important details. The next step is an in-person meeting to outline more specific details, to get to know each other, and to ensure perfect execution for your event. Read more about the process here!
Wedding-Specific Questions
Can you also act as our MC?
Absolutely! Phil is an experienced Master of Ceremonies who ensures your event flows smoothly, from introductions to announcements.
Do you offer help with planning the music for our wedding?
Yes! That’s my job! You don’t need to plan it! Just let me know if you have must-play and do-not-play songs. I will ensure that I include all your favourites, while weeding out those songs that remind you of your failed high school prom! I’m also happy to provide suggestions for key songs for the Ceremony and Reception.
Can you provide music for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception?
Yes, my preference is to cover every part of your day, so I can get to know you and your guests from start to finish. This includes the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing.
Can The Professionals work with an event planner?
Yes! The Professionals can work directly with each client, or with an event planner, to ensure every detail of your event is covered and executed flawlessly.
Logistics & Setup
What kind of equipment do you use?
We use professional-grade sound systems, microphones, and lighting to ensure high-quality sound and visuals that match the size and style of your venue. (such as: Sure, Rolland, Dell, K&M and Crest) Cables are run as discreetly as possible and out of the way of foot traffic. Speakers are located in the room to provide the best sound coverage for all attendees.
How long does it take to set up?
We typically arrive 1–2 hours before your event to set up and conduct sound checks. Everything will be ready to go before your first guest arrives.
Do you bring backup equipment?
Yes, we always have backup equipment on hand to ensure your event goes smoothly.
Music & Entertainment
Can you play specific songs or genres?
Absolutely! We tailor the music to you and your guest preferences, whether it’s a specific genre, decade, or a mix of everything. We are very good at playing music for all over the world to make all of your guests feel at home.
How is the music selected for my event?
As part of the planning process, DJ Funkiphil will spend time getting to know you, your musical preferences, and the general vibe you want for your event. From there, he will draw from his 30 years of experience and his library of over 120,000 songs, to create the perfect groove for your party, on the fly – moment by moment, beat by beat! (in other words NO pre-made playlists)
Do you take song requests during the event?
Yes! We want them! We’re happy to take requests from your guests, as long as they are appropriate for the event and not on your “do not play” list.
Can you keep the energy up for an all-night dance party?
You bet! DJ Funkiphil can party all night long! He has decades of experience reading crowds and keeping the energy on the dance floor alive and thriving.
Pricing & Payment
How much do your services cost?
Pricing varies depending on the type of event and package you choose. Contact us for a customized quote. Average pricing ranges from $1,600 to $3,900.
What is required to secure my booking?
A signed contract and a deposit of 40% are required to secure your date. The remaining balance is due closer to your event and no later then the day of the event.
Do you offer refunds if we need to cancel?
Our cancellation policy is outlined in the contract. If you cancel more than 45 days prior to the event, you will receive 75% of your deposit back. After 45 days, there is no refund available except in exceptional circumstances. Contact us as soon as possible if your plans change, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Do you provide lighting or other special effects?
Yes! We offer elegant up-lighting that matches your event colors and creates a stunning atmosphere. Additional lighting and effects can be arranged upon request.
Can you help with games or interactive entertainment?
Absolutely! DJ Funkiphil loves interacting with your audience! He is known for his engaging style and can include fun games and interactive moments to keep your guests entertained.
